Course Information and Tuition

The Azabudai Japanese Language School offers 6 levels of instruction from Beginners to Intermediate. All classes are taught by qualified teachers. Class level of the enrollees will be based on the results of questionnaires and a personal interview. If you have previously studied Japanese, you will be asked some questions in Japanese in order to determine your class level. Applicants with no learning experience will be placed in Level One. Application is open to those who have completed senior high school and are 18 years and older.

The instruction style is on oral proficiency. The basic aim of the school is to increase the students' ability to understand Japanese. Therefore, from the first lesson, we encourage students to communicate and use their newly learned language skills in their everyday lives. We believe that being able to communicate successfully in real life situations is important when learning any language. Though we stress grammatical and pronunciation accuracy, oral communication and comprehension is our ultimate goal.

About the textbooks:
Japanese for Everyday Communication (I-V)

The aim of these textbooks are to stress language as a means of communication, based on an approach which has been widely advocated in the field of foreign language learning. Developed by the faculty of the Azabudai Japanese Language School, this practical teaching method applies this idea of learning through the communicative approach; with more emphasis placed on acquiring functional communication skills than on learning grammatical structures.

The textbook was designed to help students experience as many different kinds of communications as possible. Most class activities are conducted in pairs or in groups. The dialogue format helps students learn to speak words more naturally, and also helps them develop their conversation skills positively because they have a relaxed sense of confidence that they can correct any mistakes they might make as they speak.

What students learn are conversational skills such as listening and speaking, also reading Hiragana, Katakana, and basic Kanji (based on a situational order, in which you might have to read in a daily life) and more.
